Isabella Snelson

Before joining Central Saint Martins’ Graduate Diploma Fashion, Australian knitwear designer Isabella Snelson studied Design in Fashion and Textiles at University of Technology Sydney, showcasing her BA (Hons) collection at Virgin Australia Fashion Festival, the biggest fashion event in the country. Back in Sydney during the COVID-19 pandemic, Isabella has had to adapt her new collection, titled Body on Body. She has kept the same inspiration – herself as a female. “It’s been challenging, but it is nice to do something different,” she says.

She considers the body and its form as an art piece. With easy-to-access materials such as plaster, Isabella has created the sculptural shapes of her designs on the mannequin, using it as a mould to then place pieces of knitted and woven fabric. The different textiles, together with the cut-outs, accentuate the parts that she loves from her body. Isabella’s aesthetic is about beauty within simplicity. For her, CSM has been a safe space to experiment with colour, but for this collection she has returned to her favourite monochromatic palette of black, white, greys and creams.
