Jude Hinojosa

Jude Hinojosa’s Graduate Diploma collection is a reinterpretation of Texan culture through the eyes of a rebel. His menswear designs are fit for a time-travelling cowboy from the future. Combining the glamour of the Tejano music genre popular to the area, plus the stoic, contemplative mood of the desert that envelops the southern United States, he describes the collection as “Latinx Futurism through a Sci-Fi filter”. A lifelong fan of comic books, he finds his greatest inspiration in the fantastical heroes and villains that cover their pages.

After receiving an undergraduate degree in Costume Design and working freelance before coming to Central Saint Martins, Jude is no stranger to adaptation. Having to finish his Graduate Diploma under lockdown, quarantine added pertinence to his already purposeful collection. He imagines an inclusive future for Texas that embraces the influence of its Latinx community and introduces a new vision to menswear. Featuring bumster trousers that playfully expose a zone of the body often hidden away, he challenges popular conceptions of masculinity. By challenging limits and boundaries, revealing areas of the body such as the inner thigh and the chest, a daring playfulness runs through a collection that is both provocative and utopian. Jude’s transcendent, sensitive approach is at the heart of all his design work. In his own words – “to feel is to connect”.
